Hello Everyone,
I am passing on important information about an event that is taking place this evening in the City of Pickering. Your attendance would be greatly appreciated.
A few local city councillors have said they are interested which is great, Dan Mcteague specifically. Due to a previously scheduled engagement Ben will be unable to attend as Chair of the DFPC.
Here is a key to the memorandum.
(This memorandum is an understanding regarding a joint partnership to protection and promotion of traditional knowledge, lands and environments that are related and directly connected to the production and growth of traditional diets for our two communities)
This will make the food and issue. Please make this happen.
Here is a bit about what is happening and where.
Waswanipi First Nation Youth leader Jack Ottereyes is in Pickering to sign a memorandum of understanding between citizen and youth of the Waswanipi First Nation and Citizens and youth of the City of Pickering.
This memorandum of understanding is a joint project between Waswanipi First Nation and the Durham Culinary Association to creating an youth leader swoop between our two communities highlighting political and public institutions that regulate and or effect (hopeful positive) good governance and protection of the citizens complete social and physical well being.
Further, this memorandum is an understanding regarding a joint partnership to protection and promotion of traditional knowledge, lands and environments that are related and directly connected to the production and growth of traditional diets for our two communities.
The signing of this memorandum will that place Friday evening at a community get together in Pickering around 7 pm.

The location has been finalized for the signing of the MOU tomorrow evening.
The small community event will take place at 7pm on the outdoor patio of the Second Cup located at 650 Kingston Rd. across from National Sport.
Please RSVP before 12 noon tomorrow so that we will be able to have a spot reserved for you to participate and to support this community based initiative that is designed to promote the future involvement of area youth in public and community service in Pickering and with the First Nation of Waswanipi, Quebec.

Naomi McBride, RHN, making a difference in Durham

Naomi McBride of Inside Out Vitality Within is a volunteer member of the Durham Food Policy Council and will be working with key individuals within the Durham community to fulfill the mandate of the DFPC and ensure all families can exercise the right to eat real local produce at a reasonable cost with easy access to the farmers producing it. Also, Naomi is currently working with the Durham Culinary Association (DCA) to assist in the promotion of farmer’s markets held at local high school for families to drop in a pick up local grown produce and see the high school students then in turn make a meal in the class rooms with home grown food. On July 12, Naomi McBride, RHN will be at U of T Scarborough campus at 3 Pm for the official opening ceremony of the farmers market offering produce, flowers, baked goods. Naomi McBride, RHN, will be a guest speaker. The Farmer’s Market will run from July 12, 2010 to October 25 from 3-7 and will feature professional local chefs and farmers.
