Types of Erectile Dysfunction
This disorder is divided into two main types. Primary erectile dysfunction – occurs from early childhood, causes often are disruption of the work of nerve endings, congenital anomalies of development. Secondary erectile dysfunction – appears with age and often cause are chronic diseases.

The main representative of such diseases can be called atherosclerosis. Associated with its development are violation of lipid metabolism (increased cholesterol), violation of walls of vessels (varicose veins of male sexual organ).
There is also a theory that links development of atherosclerosis with autoimmune diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis). Passage of vessels of genital organs is very important in normal development of erection, so atherosclerosis is also attributed to factors that increase risk of developing erectile dysfunction symptoms.
Another cause can be disorders of hormonal background of the body. Most often here is included violation of formation of sex hormone – testosterone, which affects sexual life of men. Causes of such deficiency are endocrine diseases, testicular lesions with violation of their function, age-related changes in hormone production.
To date, medicine is able to correct disorders of genital area in men. But in order to correctly and properly carry out treatment, it is necessary to identify true cause of the disease. For this, different examinations are carried out. The main ones are:
- measurement of blood pressure;
- record of electrocardiogram;
- determination of cholesterol level in blood;
- control of blood and urine glucose levels;
- determination of level of sex hormones in blood serum.
Methods of Treatment
In case of revealing the reason of violation of sexual life, one of the methods of treatment is used. Most often this is conservative treatment, which includes taking medications and performing certain procedures. If the cause of erectile dysfunction is violation of production of sex hormones, doctors prescribe substitution therapy with hormone preparations. Lesions can be associated with violation of state and function of vasculature of genitalia, then antiscalurgy, thrombolytic therapy are performed, and if such methods are not effective, surgical treatment can be used.
In cases related to psychoemotional sphere of a person, antidepressants, consultations of specialists (sexologist), alternative methods of treatment, such as hypnosis, may be included in doctor’s recommendation.
An important role in maintaining health in principle and men’s health in particular is played by full and proper diet. Its composition should include products with aphrodisiacs – substances that enhance sexual desire. They are mostly in bananas, avocados, celery and eggs. In addition to aphrodisiacs to maintain male health, the body needs vitamins and trace elements. Seafood is famous for its rich composition of substances that increase hormonal activity in men.
